Papers of Jerry S. Dobrovolny (B.S. General Engineering, 1943, M.S. Mechanical Engineering, 1947), Professor (1948-1987) and Head of General Engineering (1959-1987), including correspondence, audit materials, publication reprints and drafts, drafts of talks, conference materials, syllabi, lecture notes, photographs, newspaper and magazine clippings, and research notes concerning Dobrovolny's research, teaching, professional engagement, involvement in organizations, publications, advocacy for vocational, technical, and engineering education, and site visits for companies and air force bases. Also included are records concerning the Academic Year Institute (AYI), the Midwest Educational Researhc, Evaluation, and Training Center, Inc. (MERET), the Illinois Society for Professional Engineering (ISPE), and the Technical Education Research Centers (TERC).

Jerry S. Dobrovolny (1922-) received his BS from the University of Illinois in 1943 in General Engineering. In 1947 he received his MS in Mechanical Engineering and in 1948, he accepted a position as an instructor in the Department of General Engineering Drawing.  In 1959, he became head of General Engineering. He was an active member of numerous professional organizations, such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Illinois Society of Profession Engineers, American Society for Engineering Education, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Worked professionally as an engineer and advocate for technical education throughout his career. Dobrovolny taught and acted as head of the General Engineering Department until his retirement in 1987.
