Papers of Murray L. Babcock (1924-1999), Research Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Biological Computer Laboratory, include correspondence, programs, newspaper clippings and newsletters, publications, autograph books, and audiovisual media relating to his cybernetics research; the publication "Doomsday" by Heinz von Foerster et al.; events in the College of Engineering; symposia (e.g. "Science and the Human Condition" symposium, 1967); his membership in fraternities and honor societies (e.g. Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi); the U of I's Centennial celebration in 1968; and events at Assembly Hall and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Audiovisual media contains speech processing data related to the Dynamic Signal Analyzer, an analog machine for research on the ways in which auditory systems process speech.
