He was associate professor of Russian and associate professor of Slavic Languages and Literature (1963-2006); associate professor emeritus Slavic Languages and Literature (2008-2009);  Fulbright in Czechoslovakia with trips to Poland and USSR (1969-1970); Slavic and East European Journal (SEEJ) editor (1971-75).
