Scope and Contents of the Materials

Detailed and summary reports of surveys posed to University graduates from the Chicago and Urbana campuses on their attitudes towards their major and the University, including: classes of 1972, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1989, 1991, and 1993 surveyed one year after graduation; classes of 1970, 1973, and 1976 surveyed five years after graduation; classes of 1973, 1976 and 1984 surveyed ten years later; and class of 1976 surveyed in 1991.

Biographical Note

The Office of Administrative Data Processing began in 1948 as the Statistical Service Unit, reorganized from the Accounting Division's Tabulating Machines Subdivision.1 The Statistical Service Unit supervised, operated and maintained data processing equipment for the University, with a primary responsibility to serve the Business Office, the Office of the Dean of Admissions and Records, and the Bureau of Institutional Research.2 In 1968, the Trustees changed the name and the organization to encompass four Offices of Administrative Data Processing: the University Office still reported to the Executive Vice President and Provost; the other three represented the three campuses.3 The Urbana-Champaign campus Office Director reported to the University Office Director, as the latter's campus representative in data processing affairs.4 The campus Office provided the Chancellor with data processing services for University-wide administrative purposes.5 Until 1976 the campus Director reported to the Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affiars.6 For 1976 and later organization, see RS 24/10, Office of Administrative Information Systems and Services.7
