Digital Surrogates from the Marcus S. and Olive Goldman Papers include newsclippings, articles, a biography of Olive Goldman, and digitized audio files from an interview with Marcus S. Goldman by Maynard Brichford and Charles Elston on September 1, 1972. Topics covered in the audio files include growing up in MIddletown, Ohio, his experiences at the University, his service with the American Field Service Ambulance Unit in France during World War I and with Military Intelligence during World War II, serving as ground operations officer for the first Bikini atomic bomb tests, life as a student at the University of Paris, the Bernbaum-Zeitlin English Department feud, his teaching career at Illinois, his admiration for Irving Babbitt and criticism of Herbert Hoover, and his views on military service and American politics (Part 1 - Full; Part 2 - 00:00-50:37). Following the final section of the interview there is a recorded section of a radio broadcast by WILL Urbana Champaign on a lecture by Marcus S. Goldman on Wordsworth, dated to 1940 (Part 2 - 50:38-58:13).
