Scope and Contents of the Materials
Consists of course syllabi, class handouts, handwritten class and research notes, research papers, professional organization presentation, PowerPoint presentation handouts and a CD, transparencies, photographs, and eight 3.5 inch floppy disks. The papers document Reese's graduate studies in music education and his career as a professor of music education at the University of Illinois as well as his scholarly research on the use of music technologies in classroom instruction. The papers also document Reese's involvement in the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). Of particular interest among these papers are Reese's research notes and questionnaire responses to his survey of music technology in Illinois public schools.
Biographical Note
Sam Reese (1950-) is Associate Professor Emeritus of Music Education at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He joined the faculty as Associate Professor in 1996 and retired in 2007. He received his undergraduate degree in music education from Eastern Illinois University in 1972, a Masters in music education from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1977, and an Ed.D. in music education and aesthetic education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1981. His primary areas of research focus on technology-based music instruction, foundations of music education, and middle school music instruction. While on Illinois' music faculty Reese was a frequent presenter at national and international conferences, workshops, and seminars, including at the National Association for Music Education national conference.
