The ILIR Library Emergency Board Documentation File (1940-63) compiled by the Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations Library contains transcripts of proceedings, exhibits, briefs, reports, and newspaper clippings pertaining to select Emergency Boards (21, 36, 57, 101, 102, 114, 120, 121, 131, 137, War Labor Board Railroad Case of 1943, and War Labor Board Steel Panel). The Emergency Boards were appointed by executive order of the President of the United States per the Railway Labor Act (1926, amended 1936) to remedy any labor disputes among railroads and air lines that had potential to interrupt interstate commerce, Emergency Boards sought to investigate each dispute and report to the President their findings. This series also contains the transcripts of a coroner's inquest and criminal trial regarding the killing of two men by Toledo, Peoria and Western Railroad guards (1946).
