Interscholastic Track Awards Luncheon 12 | University of Illinois Archives
Illinois High School students participate in track and field events at the Interscholastic Track Meet on May 1936. Featured is the luncheon hosted with all the athletes following the event. Advertised as a "Pow-Wow Luncheon", Ed Kalb as the racial stereotypical character "Chief Illiniwek" is seated right, with Bob Zuppke and George Huff to the left of him. Featured in the center is the plaque awarded to the interscholastic track meet victor, York of Elmhurst, Villa Park.
The Pow-Wow Luncheon was held inside the skating rink and hosted by the Athletic Association, Alumni Association, and the "Tribe of Illini". Due to the volatile nature of Nitrate Film, digital file can be found at: https://medusa.library.illinois.edu/cfs_files/54134664
