Historical Note: Martha (Marti) Briggs Brown is the daughter of Louis Franklin Briggs, University of Illinois Class of 1942, and the author of From Cornfield to Battlefield: A Young Farmer's Journey Through World War I.  The book chronicles her father's experiences at the University of Illinois and in the Second World War, and is based on letters from him and family scrapbooks.
