Steven Salaita Index and Reference File (Born Digital Records) | University of Illinois Archives

Born Digital Records from the Steven Salaita Index and Reference File (2007-2015) include index to publicly-available resources regarding the decision by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees to deny an offer of employment to Steven Salaita on August 1, 2014. The preserved materials include (a) textual documents from the records of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and (b) or/other public (i.e. Internet-accessible) resources such as news articles, blog postings, and public tweets. Most materials are preserved and made accessible by the Internet Archive, and a small subset of records is preserved locally.

Also includes documents assembled by Andrew Scheinman (1961- ), a Rochester, New York, attorney and political activist, including email correspondence between university administrators, faculty, students, alumni, donors, and other individuals. Significant correspondents include Christopher Kennedy, Robert Easter, Phyllis Wise, Ilesanmi Adesida, Nicholas Burbules, Joyce Tolliver, Reginald Alston, Peter B. Fox, and Robert Warrior, as well as University students, alumni, and donors. Topics treated include the proposed 2014 appointment of Steven Salaita to a tenured faculty position, campus anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism, donor relations, fundraising, shared governance, faculty searches and appointments, James Kilgore, and the University's partnership with Carle Foundation Hospital to establish a College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign.
