Daily Illini Photographs - Negatives include 35mm strip negatives of news, portraits, and feature photographs taken for publication in the Daily Illini (1967-1980) and negatives in 8.5" x 11" binder sheets (1984-1990). The 1967-1980 file includes photographs taken for the Illio and the Technograph. For the 1967-1980 negatives, identification for photographs may be found in the print file (R.S. 41/8/11) and a subject index may be found in R.S. 41/8/13. For the 1984-1990 negatives, sports photographs are in separate chronological files. The attached finding aid represents the 4/14/2025 accrual and covers the 1970s-2000s.

In 1911, the Board of Control of the Illini received a state charter of incorporation as the Illini Publishing Company.¹ The original charter provided for a non-profit, quasi-official organization authorized to publish the Illini.² In 1920, the charter was amended to provide for the publishing of other newspapers and magazines.³ The Illini Publishing Company was renamed the Illini Media Company in 1984.⁴

In addition to the Daily Illini, the company has subsequently had administrative responsibility for publishing the Siren (1911-34, 1936-39), the Illio (1895- ), the Technograph (1885- ), the Enterpriser (1920-30), the Illinois Agriculturalist (1897-1950), the Illini Rural Observer (1950-54), Chaff (1957-62), Spectator (May-September 1961), Tom-Tom (1945-46) and Shaft (1947-54).
