Records of E.G. Williamson and John Cowan as well as personnel associations they were involved with, with a specific focus on the College Student Personnel Institute. Williamson and Cowan worked together on The American Student's Freedom of Expression: A Research Appraisal for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). The CSPI was an insitute for research and study in counseling and a training program for student personnel professionals, which grew out of the Western Personnel Institute, and was folded into the Claremont Graduate College upon its dissolution later, becoming Higher Education Abstracts in 1984. E.G. Williamson received a B.A. degree from the University of Illinois in 1925 and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1931, and was a professor and coordinator of student personnel services until his retirement in 1969. Records in this series reflect his work including his articles (1950-69), tributes to him (1969), and correspondence with CSPI director John Cowan (1966-78). John Cowan's work is reflected in this series by his essays and publications (1953-70), as well as in his work with the College Student Personnel Institute (1966-71) and other higher education organizations.
