The Association of Concert Bands of America (ACBA) was founded in August 1977 as a not-for-profit corporation. Renamed the Association of Concert Bands (ACB), the Association remains a nonprofit New York state corporation. ACB's members include bands, individuals and corporations who are uniquely dedicated and equipped to serve the needs of adult instrumental musicians who perform in and lead community bands.
The mission of ACB is to encourage and foster adult concert community, municipal, and civic bands and to promote the performance of the highest quality traditional and contemporary literature for band. In addition to representing people interested in adult concert bands, ACB's philosophy is manifested in various projects and goals, such as the Band Builder's Manual for information on the establishment, funding, development, maintenance, and promotion of bands in the world community.
The Association holds an annual convention where directors, band members, managers, industry leaders, administrators, and board members assemble to exchange personal views, share experiences, and benefit from educational seminars and musical performances.
