Scope and Contents of the Materials

Temira Pachmuss and Vladimir Zlobin Collection including personal papers of Temira Pachmuss (Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures, 1961-1999). The collection also includes the archives of Russian expatriate writers Dmitiri Merezhkovskii, Tatiana Manukhina, Christophor Tadevossian, Anna Hippius and Zinaida Hippius which were purchased in the 1960s. These archives include publications, literary manuscripts, personal correspondence, business correspondence (primarily with publishers), newspaper clippings relating to the authors' works and lives, photographs, and memorabilia. The collection also includes the archives of Vladimir Zlobin, secretary to Zinaida Hippius, containing manuscripts of Zlobin's works, correspondence regarding the publication of Merezhkovshii's works, and articles regarding Boris Saviknov.

Biographical Note

Temira Pachmuss, a Professor of Slavic languages and literatures at the University of Illinois (1961- 1999), was born in Vask-Narva, Estonia, and educated in Germany, Australia, and the United States. Temira Pachmuss devoted her career to the work of Russian writers who fled the Soviet Union after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917 and took up residency all over the world. Temira Pachmuss is widely recognized for her work on Zinaida Hippius, an influential Russian symbolist poet.
