Special education was informally administered in the College of Education until October 1962, when the Department of Special Education was established.1
Precise Early Education of Children with Handicaps (PEECH) Project:
The project was established in 1970 as a model program for the early education of the multiple-handicapped. It is a INT project of the Department of Special Education, Urbana Community School District 116 and the Illinois Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.2
