Lewis Bassie (1907-1997), director of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research and professor of economics (1948-1976), includes administrative forms, correspondence, addresses and speeches, newspaper clippings, manuscripts, reports, and publications relating to his work as a government economist and statistician (1935-1948), including work for the Department of Commerce (1939-1940, 1945-1948), Advisory Commission to the Council of National Defense (1940-1941), Office of Emergency Management, (Offices of Production Management and of Price Administration, (1941-1942), War Production Board (1942-1944)), and the Foreign Economic Administration (1944-1945); his directorship of the Bureau of Economic and Business Research; and his work for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Iran (1970-1971).The papers also include materials relating to investigations (1948-1954) of him and others during the anti-communist investigations of the 1940s and 1950s and to his forecastings of economic conditions and his analyses of economic policy.
