Historical Note: Henrieque "Almirante" Foreis Domingues (1908-1980) was a Brazilian composer and scholar. Foreis began his musical career in 1928 while a student at the Baptist College of Rio de Janeiro. He joined the group "Flor do Tempo"--a musical ensemble which included João "Braguinha" de Barro, Alvinho, and Henrique Brito--and adopted the nickname Almirante, or Admiral. In the early 1930s, he helped popularize samba and carnival songs through his work at Radio Tupi in Rio de Janeiro. In 1951 he produced a radio program called In the Time of Noel Rosa, about Rosa's interpretation of samba in the 1920s. In 1963, he wrote a biography on the life of Rosa under the name Almirante.
