Name: Call, Jerry (1942-)

Historical Note: Jerry Max Call (1942- ) is a musicologist and graduate of the University of Illinois. Born on October 13, 1942 in Afton, Wyoming, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Max E. Call of Utah. Call attended Star Valley High School in Star Valley, Wyoming, where he was Valedictorian. He earned his bachelors in music (1966) and masters of arts (1968) from the University of Utah. Call enrolled in the PhD program in musicology at the University of Illinois in 1969. In 1971, he became the Graduate Research Assistant for the Musicological Archives for Renaissance Manuscript Studies. In 1972, he became a lecturer at the School of Music. After serving as a visiting professor at Middlebury College (Vermont), he returned to the University of Illinois in 1975 to serve as the MARMS research archivist. Call eventually completed his dissertation in 1992, writing "A Chansonnier form Lyons: The Manuscript Vienna, Oesterreichische Nationalbibliothek, Mus. Hs. 1811 (Volumes 1 and 2)."
