Historical Note: Wings Over Jordan was an African American a cappella choir from Cleveland, OH. Founded in 1937 at WGAR radio station for it's "negro hour," Wings Over Jordan was the first African American radio program to be nationally broadcast on CBS. The ensemble was founded by conductor and Baptist minister Glynn Thomas Settle. Throughout 1940s, the chorus toured extensively throughout the United States. After Settle's death in 1967, the chorus's activity decreased, but continued to give reunion concerts until 1978.
