Kenneth Ray Steinsultz was born and raised in Harrisburg, Illinois. He attended Harrisburg High School, playing euphonium and tuba in the band under the direction of Curtis Burklow. Steinsultz attended Quincy University (IL), where he received a bachelors of science in music education. Following this, Steinsultz at Brown County High School in Mount Sterling, IL and Lewistown (IL) High School. He received his master's of music in 1991 and his doctor of musical arts in 2004, both at the University of Illinois. His dissertation was entitled, "Euphonium Soloists and Soloists with the John Philip Sousa Band."
In 1993, while pursuing his DMA, Steinsultz became the Assistant to the Director of Bands. He would hold this position until 2008, when he became the Director of Bands at the University of Evansville (IN). He led the Evansville Bands to performances at the Chicgoland Band Festival, the Indiana Music Educators Conference, and the College Band Directors National Association Conference. Steinsultz has performed on tuba and euphonium with the Quincy (IL) Park Band, Quincy (IL) Symphony Orchestra, Mississippi River Brass Band, Champaign Urbana Symphony, Danville Symphony Orchestra, the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, and many other ensembles.
