Six Geology Scrapbooks documenting the activities of the Geology Department and its faculty, staff, students and the Cyclothem Club from 1917 to 1972. They include photos of Cyclothem Club and Alumni Banquets and Luncheons, 1949-52, 1958; group photos of faculty, staff, students and their families, 1917-61; news clippings on faculty and students and former faculty and students and the Russian invasion of Hungary, 1968; the Geology Wives' Club record book, 1958-71; H. R. Wanless' aerial photo collection; photos from the International Geological Congress in Copenhage, 1960; birth wedding and memorial announcements; greeting cards and memos.
The Geology Department has offered courses under the Department of Natural History (1868);1 College of Natural History (1870);2 College of Natural Science (1871-90);3 College of Science, School of Natural History (1891-1912)4 and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (1913- ).5 In November 1919, the Geology Department was organized on a committee basis.6 During this period, the Geology and Geography Department was organized, but the Geography Department became separate in 1947.7 The Department offers both undergraduate and graduate courses.
