Historical Note: Dr. Janet Yamron (1932-) recieved her master of education in choral conducting in 1957 at Temple University under direction of department head Elaine Brown. In 1966, after serving as an educator in the Philadelphia school district from 1960-1966, she accepted a full-time faculty position in the Temple University college of music and dance, serving in multiple positions including associate dean for undergraduate studies and director of University choral and chamber choir. Yamron worked closely with Elaine Brown as Assistant director of Singing City, where she conducted programs and assisted with the preparation of major choral works. Janet Yamron served as an editor and compiler of Lighting a Candle: The Writings and Wisdom of Elaine Brown. After retiring in 2009, Yamron was awarded the Elaine Brown Award For Choral excellence by the American Choral Director's Association (ACDA) in July 2012. Now a professor emerita, Yamron remains an active member of the American Choral Director's Association.
