Description: Programs, a published tribute to John Philip Sousa, Sousa Band route sheets, and articles documenting both Jay Sims' career as a cornetist with the Sousa Band's performances at Willow Grove, PA in 1919 and Sousa Band performances. Of particular interest are the Sousa Band route sheets that provide information regarding the dates and locations of the band's performances from September 15, 1919 until January 10, 1920, and the June 1957 Sousa Band Fraternal Society newsletter that featured Sim's contributions to the Sousa Band.
Five pocket-sized ledgers belonging to Jay G. Sims prior to him becoming a member of the Sousa Band, dating from 1913 to 1917, documenting daily expenses while on the road from the B.A. Rolfe theatrical company with booking information and expenses pertaining to his travel with the company. The ledgers also contain notes, business cards, receipts, handwritten notes, and a threaded needle. These items were acquired separately on May 13, 2012.
