Adriaan J. de Witte was a professor of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Illinois from 1960-1986, where his research focused on geophysics and the propagation of electromagnetic waves in porous media.
Professor de Witte joined the department of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering in 1960 as a professor of petroleum engineering. Prior to this, he conducted geophysical research in the petroleum industry for Gulf Oil Company and Conoco Inc. At the University of Illinois, de Witte's research focused on geophysics, electromagnetic wave properties, oil and natural gas properties, and the interaction of technology, economics, and the environment.
Professor de Witte retired from the University of Illinois in 1986. He is married to Maria Elizabeth de Witte.
