Barry Lee Brehm of Champaign, IL was born July 2, 1947 in Decatur, IL, the son of Billy Ayres Brehm and Edna Louise (Kellogg) Brehm. He passed away on May 31, 2017 in Champaign, IL.
Barry graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1965. He earned his bachelorâ??s degree with High Honors in Accountancy from the University of Illinois in 1976, after serving in the U.S. Navy for six years during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1972. He served one year in Saigon, Vietnam at the American Forces Vietnam Network as well as at naval stations on both coasts in the U.S.A. He was honorably discharged from the Navy as an Electronics Technician (Radar) Petty Officer 2nd Class (ETR2).
Barry was a CPA and joined Arthur Andersen in Chicago after graduating in 1976 staying until 1979. He spent a short time as a restaurant entrepreneur before joining Filbey, Summers & Co. CPAs in Champaign-Urbana from 1981 to 1982. He started at Carle in 1982 and worked the remainder of his career as Director of Operations Review for 27 years at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL retiring July 17, 2009.
He was a highly regarded local outdoors photographer with a few hundred of his color landscapes gracing the offices, hallways and conference rooms throughout Carle Clinic and Carle Foundation Hospital and in local Champaign-Urbana businesses. He loved taking photos of the University of Illinois campus and of Allerton Park over many years and seasons. He also visited and photographed many of the U.S. National Parks.
He was an active member of the Champaign County Camera Club winning top awards in the Central Illinois Camera Clubs Association competitions.
