Historical Note: Jerry S. Dobrovolny (1922-) received his BS from the University of Illinois in 1943 in General Engineering. In 1947 he received his MS in Mechanical Engineering and in 1948, he accepted a position as an instructor in the Department of General Engineering Drawing. In 1959, he became head of General Engineering. He was an active member of numerous professional organizations, such as the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Illinois Society of Profession Engineers, American Society for Engineering Education, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Worked professionally as an engineer and advocate for technical education throughout his career. Dobrovolny taught and acted as head of the General Engineering Department until his retirement in 1987.
