Scope and Contents of the Materials

Student’s Architecture Drawings includes volumes of specimen plates of signed and unsigned student work in architectural construction, architectural drawing, esthetics, stone and iron construction, graphic statics, designing, roofs and advanced graphics.

Volume 19 contains color plates of Architectural designs by N. Clifford Ricker including floor plans and sectional views of buildings for which there is no front elevation (1870-72); from elevation of Corn Exchange, London (1872); design for a villa - front elevation and floor plans (1872); Exchange Building in romanesque style (1872); building in Gothic style (1872) and a plate of the Loggia of the Lions, Villa Borghese, Rome - not signed by Ricker.

This series also includes oversized original student drawings in ink, watercolor, pencil on paper and board. The project types vary as do the number of drawings for each and represent architectural design work from each decade. Drawings are identified by student creator and title and the table in the finding aid includes date, number, and size of drawings. Significant works include student work from James M. White from his studies abroad, Alberta Pfeiffer, Jack Baker, and Ralph Johnson’s architectural thesis.

The finding aid for the oversized drawings in this series is the product of NEH Funding for rehousing the materials into archival quality folders. University Archives and Library Preservation also provided funding and iSchool student practicum experience.

Oversize folders (boxes)  893, 894, and 895 contain poster board drawings that are ~ 41.5" x 41.5" and do not fit in map case drawers. These items are currently stored on top of a map case in University Archives, room 146.
