Administrative History of Creating Unit
Separated from Army ROTC in 1949, the Air Force ROTC unit provided military training in Air Force Science.1 In 1965 the department of Air Science - Air Force ROTC was renamed as the "Department & Air Force and Aerospace Studies." The University offered both two year and four year programs of military instruction at Urbana-Champaign.2 The four year option is open to college freshmen and sophomores or those having sufficient previous active military service. The two year option is open to those having at least two college years remaining prior to graduation.3
From November 8, 1971, through October 5, 1977, the Air Force ROTC published a newsletter, Detachment 190, containing editorials, interviews, feature articles, announcements and a weekly calendar of events.4
