Issuances of the Office of Academic and Nonacademic Affirmative Action and the Chancellor's Affirmative Action Office, including a memo to deans, directors and department heads (May 1968), a census of black families in Champaign-Urbana (December 1968), talk by James Ransom (Dec. 1970), an academic affirmative action brochure (1976), Affirmative Action Faculty Status Reports (1993, 1944, 1996), and "A Report on the Participation and Success of Underrepresented Students and Staff" (1995) and brochures (2008).
On December 24, 1963, the University Committee on Human Relations and Equal Opportunity was established as the first of many steps to achieve the goal of equal opportunity.1 Among campus programs to deal with discrimination is the Office of Affirmative Action for Equal Opportunity, which was established in the budget of the Chancellor's Office in 1971-1972.2 In 1972, the Campus Council on Equal Opportunity was formed to integrate and oversee all affirmative action programs, including the Equal Opportunity Office. Its director serves on the Council.3
