Historical Note:

The first Women's Studies course on campus was taught during the summer session of 1970, attracting 38 students. During spring semester of 1975, 19 courses were offered to more than 800 students.1 "In the fall of 1978 an interdisciplinary Office of Women's Studies was established to promote research on women, to foster the incorporation of new materials on women into established courses, and to encourage additional course offering on women that broaden the traditional curriculum."2 A concentration in Women's Studies is offered through the Individual Plans of Study Program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.3 "Courses from various disciplines can be integrated around a central theme or focus of study in conjunction with a concentration."4
