Hall Mcintyre Macklin (1904-1991) was born on March 6, 1904 in Morrison, Illinois and grew up in Whiteside, Illinois. Upon entering the University of Illinois he organized a group of musicians originally known as the Illini Singing Band, later known as the Hall Macklin Orchestra, that performed for dances both locally and regionally. Macklin graduated from the University of Illinois in 1932 and continued to perform with the orchestra, renamed the Glenn Lee Orchestra, under the direction of Chicago-based vocalist Glenn Lee, through 1935. In 1935, Macklin married Lois Melton Sidles, who passed in 1971.

Following his marriage to Sidles, the couple moved to Moscow, Idaho where Macklin began serving as a professor within the University of Idaho Music Department. In 1938 he earned a Master's of Music from the University of Idaho. In 1947 he was named head of the Department of music. He served in this capacity until 1969. In 1970 Hall Macklin participated in a reunion of the Hall Macklin and Glenn Lee Orchestras held in Elkhart, Indiana. Macklin retired from the University of Idaho in 1975. Following this, he taught at Florida Atlantic University and Central Washington University. In 1974, he married Laura Beebe DuMars in Darien, Connecticut. From 1930 to 1980 he served as church organist for the United Presbyterian Church in Moscow, Idaho. He died on November 7, 1991.
