Description: Papers of Zoology Professor Henry B. Ward (1865-1945), who received an A.B. degree from Williams (1885); studied at Gottingen, Freiburg and Leipzig (1888-90) and received a Ph.D. from Harvard (1892). In 1909 he came to Illinois from Nebraska and headed the Department of Zoology until his retirement in 1933. Ward was a teacher of parasitologists, studied Pacific salmon and stream pollution and was in contact with scientific organizations and scientists throughout the world. His papers include student notes in anatomy and zoology (1888-92), photographs, correspondence, clippings, publications (1891, 1899, 1901, 1903, 1909-44), reports and biographical material relating to parasitology, his career as Dean of Nebraska's Medical School (1903-09), Alaska and Pacific salmon, the Journal of Parasitology (1914-32), American Microscopical Society (1902-43), scientific meetings, teachers, colleagues, students, field trips and laboratories. They include college books (1889-90), diplomas, a personal account book (1890-96), Zoology Club meeting notices (1895-1914), a 16 mm. film of Ward on a field trip (ca. 1925), a talk on the duty of the state concerning medical research (1927), talks to Izaak Walton League, and as National President of Izaak Walton League, testimonial letters from former students (1933), a report of the Matamek, Quebec, Conference on Biological Cycles (1935), a list of Ward's publications (1891-1944) and reports on his zoological library (1935, 1945).
