Description:

File of the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, kept by the Commission's secretary, Kendric C. Babcock (1864-1932), Dean of the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences (1913-31), including minutes (1917-23), correspondence (1915-25) and statistical questionnaires (1917-23), relating to enrollment, size of classes, graduation, departments, curricula, faculty degrees and hours of instruction, salaries and resources and income.

The aim of the Association, founded in 1895, was "to establish closer relations between the secondary schools and the institutions of higher education within the North Central states and such other territory as the Association may recognize."Â The Commission corresponded with universities, colleges, junior colleges, and normal schools for the purpose of standardizing, inspecting and classifying the institutions accredited by the Association and appearing in its annual list.

The series includes minutes (1909, 1911, 1913-18) of the National Conference Committee on Standards of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
