Research reports prepared by center staff with contract or grant support on library service, statistics and networks; public library systems; book processing costs; audiovisual resources; college and university library personnel; and Champaign-Urbana Black community resources. The series includes the Illinois Public Library statistics for the Illinois State Library (1979-90); Illinois Library Statistical Reports (1-4, 6-20, 22,24)- Illinois State Library Research Series (1-3, 5-7, 9-15), Public Library Statistics published in Illinois libraries (1939, 1949, 1959, 1960-86) and related forms, lists, publications and reports (1966- ).
Established in 1961 through a grant of Library Services Act funds from the Illinois State Library, the Center was originally designed to conduct studies related to rural public library development.1 The Center broadened its scope to include studies of more general library concern, though it continued to emphasize public library problems.2
