Papers of David F. Linowes, professor of political economy and public policy and business administration (1976- ), including copies of books: Managing Growth Through Acquisition (1968), Strategies for Survival (1973), The Corporate Conscience (1974), Personal Privacy in an Information Society (1977) and Fiscal Accountability of the Nation's Energy Resources (1982) and articles (1966-82) on accountancy, corporate mergers, socio-economic accounting, social programs, Greece, records, privacy, communications, management and public policy. This series contains Linowes' files as chair of the federal Privacy Protection Study Commission (1975-77) including reports, draft recommendations, transcripts of hearing, witness testimony and exhibits, press clippings, speeches, background documents, and correspondence with commission members and staff, congressmen, individuals in federal and state government, private industry and the general public concerning administration of the commission, Privacy Act of 1974, personal privacy and the record-keeping practices of banking, education, employment, health care, insurance, private investigations and social services. There is similar documentation for Linowes' work as Chair of the Commission of Fiscal Accountability of the Nation's Energy Resources (1981-82) established by Secretary of the Interior James Watt. The series includes hearing and business and public meeting transcripts and copies of draft and final reports of the Commission on Fair Market Value Policy for Federal Coal Leasing (1983-84) and as Chair of the President's Commission on Privatization (1987-88). Also included are general correspondence (1974-1991), copies of Linowes' articles and speeches on privatization (1974-1989), and research data for his 1989 book, Privacy in America.
