The Office for Information Management was founded in 1985 as a unit within the College of Commerce and Business Administration.1 Funded jointly by industry and by the University, its goals are to "foster the study of the management of information systems"; and "to promote projects between industry and academia on the management of information systems".2 A five year goal is to have the entire College of Commerce and Business Administration involved in information management.3 Another long-term goal is "to broaden the focus of graduate curricula and scholarly research in the College to include information management".4 One function of the Office is to administer an IBM grant for graduate education and research on "managing information for competitive advantage".5 The Office for Information Management also operates a graduate computer laboratory, with over 100 workstations.6
