Galesburg Students on Private Train | University of Illinois Archives
Students fill a train car. Caption on back reads: "GALESBURG, Ill., Dec. 19--No crowded railroad stations for vacation-bound students at the Galesburg Division of the University of Illinois as they stepped from campus classrooms directly into a private train provided by the Burlington railroad. University officials made the arrangements with the railroad after 'discovery' of a forgotten spur track which cuts across the University campus. The special student train, with a snack bar included, later switched to a through track to Chicago's Union Station arriving there at 9 p.m. Friday (Dec. 19) after stops at Kewanee, Princeton, Mendota, and Aurora. University students have a 16-day Christmas furlough which began after classes today (Friday, Dec. 19) and ends Monday Jan. 4."
