Consists of photographs documenting Bertin's college years, career and colleagues. Includes portraits, candid photos, machinery and workspaces, and conferences.
Eugene P. Bertin was born in 1921. He served in World War II and held the rank of Colonel upon his discharge. He then enrolled at the University of Illinois, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1948, a master's degree in 1949, and a PhD in 1952, all in chemistry. He briefly taught Chemistry 101 at the university before relocating to Princeton, New Jersey, where he worked for the RCA Corporation for 34 years, specializing in X-ray fluorescence spectrometry.
Bertin published two textbooks on XRF, and was the second recipient of the Birks Award in 1988, awarded by the International Centre for Defraction Data. He passed away on December 2, 2008.
