Scope and Contents of the Materials

Consists of eight scrapbooks containing newsclippings, concert programs, photographs, health permit, zines, and concert memorabilia and ephemera, documenting David Roesch's tenure as a stage manager at the Assembly Hall and the Urbana-Champaign, Illinois local music scene between 1966 and 2017. Of note are records of performances by such bands as Coal Kitchen, The Moon Seven Times, The Vertebrats, Mother, Corndolly, Suede Chain, Finchley Boys, Ginger, Captain Rat and the Blind Rivets, Starcastle, REO Speedwagon, Hound Dog Moses, Poster Children, B-Lovers, Corndolly, Hardvark, Sarge, the Last Gentlemen, Absinthe Blind, Champaign (the band), Combo Audio, George Faber and Stronghold, The Elvis Brothers, Nix 86, The Outnumbered, Nick Rudd, and Lonely Trailer. Scrapbooks also include advertisements for local music venues including Chances R, Red Lion Inn, Assembly Hall, Blind Pig, The Virginia Theater, City Limits, Alley Cat, Mabel's, The Brown Jug, Panama Red's, Red Herring, Highdive, Cowboy Monkey, Mike N' Molly's, and the Rose Bowl.

Biographical Note

David Roesch started his own lighting business shortly after graduating from Centennial High School (Champaign) in 1975, and began working closely with local and national musicians. In 1984 he was hired as extra help at the State Farm Center (formerly Assembly Hall), until becoming a full-time stage manager in 1999.  He retired from the State Farm Center in February of 2018.

Includes newsclippings documenting performances that were booked at Chances R, Red Lion Inn, Assembly Hall, Blind Pig, The Virginia Theater, City Limits, Alley Cat, Mabel's, and the Brown Jug.  The bands include Coal Kitchen, Grateful Dead, Earth Wind & Fire, The Moon Seven Times, The Vertebrats, Mother, Corndolly, Suede Chain, Finchley Boys, Ginger, Captain Rat and the Blind Rivets, Starcastle, and REO Speedwagon.  In addition there articles documenting the Gary Strater benefit concert; Mark Rubel's relocation of the Pogo Studio to Nashville; Tennessee, and a Red Lion Inn health permit from 1979.

Includes newsclippings documenting performances held at The Drum Shop, Red Lion Inn, Brown Jug, Chances R, Panama Red's, Studio One, and Assembly Hall.  The bands include Hound Dog Moses, Cheap Trick, Poster Children, B-Lovers, Corndolly, Hardvark, Sarge, the Last Gentlemen, and Absinthe Blind.  In addition the newsclippings document two local sound recording business, Polyvinyl Records and Record Swap; and includes The Road Puppy Weekly Review zine, 2nd edition, Sept. 20-27, 1991, edited by Joey Buck.

Includes newsclippings documenting performances by the band Emerson, Lake and Palmer, as well as the Marshall Tucker Band, Frank Zappa, Starcastle, and Todd Rundgren.  There are also articles documenting the plane crash that killed three members of Lynyrd Skynyrd; as well as ticket stubs from performances by many national acts that took place at the University of Illinois' Assembly Hall.

Includes newsclippings documenting performances by the bands Starcastle, George Thorogood, Champaign (the band), Combo Audio, George Faber and Strronghold, The Elvis Brothers, Nix 86, Talking Heads, Last Gentlemen, The Outnumbered, Nick Rudd, Lonely Trailer, and Coal Kitchen.  In addition there are articles about Della Perrone's work photographing many of the musicians who performed as part of the Urbana-Champaign local music scene.

Includes newsclippings documenting performances by CV Lloyde, Head East, Slink Rand, Headlights, Beauty Shop, Elsinore, and The Living Blue.  The articles also record performances given at the University of Illinois' Foellinger Auditorium and Krannert Center for the Performing Arts as well as such community venues as the Cowboy Monkey, The Highdive, Mike & Molly's, The Red Herring, IMC, Rose Bowl, Memphis on Main.  This is also a Combo Audio fan club certificate and the biographies of the band members and a National Dance Marathon program.

Includes newsclippings documenting performances by the bands High Sierra, Rhythm Rangers, Blanche Talley, Poster Children, Soul Circle, Adrian Belew, The Last Gentlemen, e.k.g, Polaroidz, The Martyrs, Mistress, Charming Beggars, The Didjits, and Titanic Love Affair.  Also includes advertising for performances at The Blind Pig, Mabel's, Candy's Lounge, Buddie's, and Nature's Table.
