Papers of William R. Schowalter (1985-2002), Dean of the College of Engineering (1988-2001), include analog and electronic correspondence, memos, meeting minutes and agendas, reports, spreadsheets, and presentations documenting his activities and correspondence with faculty and other adminsitrators in the College; his involvement in various committees; the College's partnerships with companies (e.g. Raytheon); the campus fund charity drive; memorials for faculty; minutes and agendas of the Executive Committee; faculty grant proposals and research projects (such as Chester S. Gardner's work on the GEMINI campaign using remote sensing technology, LiDAR, 1990); the annual meeting of the College of Engineering Advisory Board (1998-1999); the formation of a Nuclear Reactor Study Committee related to the Nuclear Reactor Laboratory (1991); and discussions regarding a proposal to create a Bardeen Museum of Science and Technology (1994).

Schowalter's electronic records: (1) Ran virus-scan program on the files; (2) Used Firefly social security number detector, DROID, and NARA File Analyzer to extract metadata in order to facilitate appraisal and processing decisions; (3) Used TrID file extension identifier to analyze and append missing file extensions on a number of files during processing; (4) Deleted files containing proprietary, condfidential, and sensitive information.
