On November 10,2000, the Chancellor and Provost appointed a campus committee to recommend action items for enhancing diversity at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.¹ The committee recommended the establishment of a Center on Democracy in a Multiracial Society. In 2003, a campus Center was granted temporary status and a three year budget.² ``
