Stoughton as a historical site including the National Register Certificate (2001-2005), the "History Makers" presentation (2006), "Immigration and Race in Illinois" workshop (2009), Latino Action Project (2002-2004), living and learning communities (2001-2011), program coordinator search (2006-2008), research/working groups, including Booker T. Conferences include "Documenting the Difference Racial and Ethnic Diversity Makes: Uncovering, Discussing and Transforming the University" (2006), "Race, Diversity and Campus Climate" (2008) and "Diversity and Democracy" (2010). Symposiums include "Constructing Race" (2004), "Race and Sports" (2003), "After Whiteness" (2003) and "The East in the West: Seven Transnational Artifacts Exhibit" (2003). A sample of speakers includes: Linda Faye Williams (2004), the Freedom Riders (2003), Mike Honey (2003), Sylvia Puente (2003), Dell Upton (2004), Rebecca Ginsburg (2004) and Theresa Mah (2004).

Biographical Note

On November 10,2000, the Chancellor and Provost appointed a campus committee to recommend action items for enhancing diversity at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.1 The committee recommended the establishment of a Center on Democracy in a Multiracial Society. In 2003, a campus Center was granted temporary status and a three year budget.2 ``
