Hutchins (1967-1978); Claudia Johnson (1998-1999); Bernard Rosenthal (1966-2000); William J. Scheick (1997-2000); and George Tabor (1959-1998); subjects of special research interest include Nathaniel Hawthorne, Jonathan Edwards, Walt Whitman, Edgar Allen Poe, University of Illinois professor Gordon Ray, and the history of the Emmanuel Memorial Episcopal Church (Champaign, Ill.).
Edward H. Davidson (1912- ) received his bachelor's degree from American University in 1934 and his Ph.D from Yale in 1940. He taught at Ohio University and Hunter College before joining the English faculty at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1951. In 1962-63 he served as Visiting Professor at Harvard, and in 1965 was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. Research and scholarship interests include the work of Nathaniel Hawthorne, Jonathan Edwards, and Edgar Allen Poe. Professor Davidson retired in 1980.

Finding Aid Revision History: Collection originally consisted only of Prof. Davidson's paper, "Gordon Ray at Illinois, 1946-1960:� A Memoir."� Three cubic feet of material pertaining to Davidson's personal and professional life were added to the series in October 2007, at which time it was discovered that the original accession was not on the shelf.� The finding aid was then updated to reflect both the addition and the missing item.� SFA 3 pp.
