Scope and Contents: The original, parchment charter deed of sale by which Simon de Thornton, son and heir of Isabella, daughter and heir of Edward, son of Stephen, gives (dedi), conceded (concessi), and confirms (et hac praesenti carta mea confirmavi), certain of his lands, pastures, etc., in the villa of Goldale to Lord Phillip, Lord Darcy, Robert de Waterton, and John Dannay. The arrangement is witnessed by Thomas de Colkyk and seven others, dated at Snaith on 20 January 22 Richard II (1399), with pendant seal for verification. This takes place in the last year of Richard II's reign, just before he is deposed by Henry Bolingbroke, duke of Lancaster, who becomes Henry IV.
