Heereboord, Adrianus (1614-1661)

Adriaan Heereboord (1614-1661), also known as Adrianus, was a Dutch philosopher and physicist. Heereboord studied philosophy at the University of Leiden under Franco Burgersdijk (1590-1635), and was later appointed as a professor for the teaching of logic. In 1642, Heereboord was appoint subregent (deputy dean) of the Statencollege in Hoorn, North Holland, where he taught philosophy and, in 1644, ethics.

A supporter of Cartesian philosophy, Heereboord was also influenced by Petrus Ramus (1515-1572) and Francis Bacon (1561-1626). Philosophia Naturalis (1663) was derived from Heereboord's lectures, and was published after his death.
