Gustav Grober, Professor of Romance Philology at the University of Strassburg, was a Romance scholar and collector. The main strength of his collection was Provencal and Italian literature and linguistics, though there were materials on all Romance languages and dialects, and volumes on classical, English, and Germanic works. His collection also contains a large number of dissertations and other studies, which comprise the vast majority of pamphlets and brochures on Romance subjects published in Germany from 1880-1910.

Purchased as part of the Grober Collection in 1912; each front paste-down erroneously bears the bookplate of the Library of Heinrich A. Rattermann, Cincinnati, purchased in 1915.
