Scope and Contents: This volume (98 pages), entitled The Loves of Cupid & Psyche: A Milesian Fable, contains a manuscript translation of Apuleius's Psyche et Cupido, dated January 1791. A note in a separate hand indicates that the volume was created "at the request of Lady Beaumont."
The volume includes a brief quotation about metaphor, fable, and allegory, modified from Thomas Blackwell's Letters Concerning Mythology (title page); and a biographical note about Lucius Apuleius (pp. 1-5). The translated text (pp. 6-98), titled "Leonarda's Tale to the despairing Captive Lady after her relation of the frightful visions in her Sleep," includes contemporary manuscript corrections.
