Scope and Contents of the Materials

This item is a petition from William Andrews to a group of justices of the peace sitting at Hicks Hall (now in London, England), written around 1690. Andrews, who had been sentenced to prison and fined for keeping a disorderly house, accuses the constables of being guilty of similar crimes and requests that the justices investigate the matter and remit his sentence. An endorsement suggests that the court reduced his fine and remitted his corporal punishments.
