Layout: Frame-ruled, musical staff notation (4 lines in red with square notes); text between staves.
Decoration of initial: Christ is depicted ascending into heaven and is observed by the eleven disciples who stand on the hill at Galilee (Matt. 28:16; Luke 24:50-51; etc.). This scene is surrounded by the illuminated initial "A" of "ascendens."
Other decoration: Two wide floriate borders with illumination extend the length of left side and the top.
Provenance: Purchased from Marshall Field & Company, Chicago, summer of 1985, with support from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library Friends.
Origin: Transcribed by Dominican monk, Giovanni Balli; illuminated initial attributed to Giovanni Battista Rossi; commissioned by Prince Fabrizio Pignatelli of Naples.
