Series 2 is organized into three subseries: 1.) Published Works, 2.) Manuscript Drafts, and 3.) Notebooks, each of which are organized alphabetically by title of work.

Series 3 is organized by file number, which roughly follows an alphabetical arrangement by topic.

Series 4 is organized into three subseries: 1.) Clippings & Photos, 2.) Business Records, 3.) Realia, which are roughly grouped by either topic or date.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

The Ewing C. Baskette papers contain correspondence, writings, and files created and/or collected by American lawyer, librarian, and bibliographer, Ewing Cannon Baskette (1902-1958). Materials broadly concern the topics of civil liberties, censorship, and freedom of expression; formats include letters, manuscripts, pamphlets and periodicals, legal documents, bibliographies, catalogs, photos, and realia, among others.

The Ewing C. Baskette collection on Freedom of Expression (cataloged separately) contains approximately 10,000 volumes and is available to browse via Primo.

Biographical Note

Ewing Cannon Baskette, lawyer and librarian, owned the largest private collection on civil liberties and freedom of expression in the United States.
