Historical Note: Richard Bentley and Son (originally Richard Bentley) was a London publishing house founded by English publisher, Richard Bentley (1794-1871) in 1829. Bentley's son, George (1828-1895), began his time as a partner in 1845 and assumed control of daily operations in 1867. Following the death of the elder Bentley, the firm became Richard Bentley and Son in 1871. Richard Bentley II (1854-1936), son of George Bentley, sold the firm to MacMillan Publishers in 1898.
